Issue 1: In Between

TK Zine

Where the %#&@ is TK?!

I am horribly embarrassed and bummed that the second issue of TK didn’t get out on schedule. The honest truth: I love this zine dearly, but the process of starting a new job and moving to a new city kicked my ass. Between mastering the 9-5, setting up our first apartments and learning the intricate maze of big-city mass transit, Kuan and I had way less time for editing and production than we thought.

TK2 is coming, though. And there will be an issue 3 and 4 and 5 after that, until we’re really famous and do this full-time. Or something.

We just finished an awesome, lengthy Skype call in which we planned production for the second issue. We plan to have it all together and on the Internet by October 31.

If you have any questions about your submission, want to submit something now (theoretically, it’s not too late!) or want to rail on us for the absurd delay, shoot us an email — talktotkzine at gmail dot com.

I am really, truly sorry though, and I assure you that this isn’t a problem we expect to see again. Kuan and I both love this zine and the people who have contributed and made it so great. We’re amped to see what you come up with in the future.

A couple reminders: You do not have to know us/live in our region/be alumnae of our school to submit. There are no word minimums or maximums — if you only have 100 words, we will take your 100 words. And you can write/design/photograph absolutely anything, as long as it comes back to the theme of “access.”

If you contributed to Issue 1 or discussed contributing to Issue 2 with us, but have not completed your piece, please email talktotkzine@gmail.com and we’ll work it out.

Wasn’t this the promise of “indie rock” (or whatever economy-of-a-smaller-scale proxy subculture you fancy) with its self-avowed, proudly ethical distance from the trad machinations of avaricious major labels, star-boning puff-piece magazines, corporatist logic and the like? (Or maybe that was my own teenage projection. Those were the days…) But, amidst the collapse of such readymade distinctions and the business of our time being that of friendship, it’s fascinating to scrutinize the web of interrelated associates, “followers,” comrades, supporters, fans and half-pals that comprise your typical emergent “scene.”“”

- Hua Hsu, on access and the entertainment industry (The Atlantic)

publictransitadventures:
